Day 29 - Something You're Listening To

Thou shalt not EVER touch my iPod.  Ever.  My kids know this.  They haven't quite gotten the rule about not touching my ear buds though.  They seem to always be in someone else's ears.  But Mama doesn't play, she will take back her ear buds anytime, especially when children are bickering in the car.

Day 28 - Money

This is our new tree in the backyard.  Be jealous!  It's an original and cannot be reproduced :)

Day 27 - Something You Ate

I'm having a really hard time with this photo topic... something you "ATE"?  I don't personally kill my own food, nor do I intentionally throw my food up for picture-sake.  And heaven forbid if I even THINK of taking a pic of [ahem] my digested food.  So how does a girl take a picture of something she's eaten?  I'll pass on this day.

Day 26 - Night

If you have time, read a bit about Oakley's breed, Staffordshire Bull Terrier.  What they say is TRUE.  This girl wakes up in the morning and has more energy than all five of us combined and when this girl decides her day is over, she crashes.  This is her snuggling her daddy.  Man does she love Jason!

Day 19 - Something you hate to do

Hate is a strong word that I don't really like to use.  But using in the same sentence with laundry I think is fair :)  I still had 3 more loads to go!

Day 17 - Time

When my alarm goes off at this time every morning, I want to throw my phone across the room.  I want so badly to be that Mom who rises early and has this gourmet breakfast for her children before they head off for school.  But sleep almost always prevails.

Day 10 - Self Portrait

How about a recent portrait taken of me and Courtnie?  I'm not much of a self photographer.  I crop my head off, double my chin, lose an eye, etc.

Day 9 - Front Door

I just recently posted a pic of my front door (with my Valentine's Day wreath) so I opted to show you what I recently found on Colton's door.  Not sure how long it's been there :(

Day 6 - Dinner

Chili and cornbread for dinner, boy-cheese sandwiches for the two boys who do not like chili.

Frozen Balls

Someone help a girl out and PLEASE tell me why they would do this?  There has to be logic behind what boys do, right?  And yes, by the time I found them, they were frozen.  Not sure how long it takes for balls to thaw out or what condition they may be in once they are completely thawed.

This bay far beats the baseball in my pantry post awhile back.

The cost of being a disciple

Today in our Life Group, we talked about Luke 14:25-35, the cost of being a disciple for Christ.  Luke 14:27 says, "And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple."  The question asked was What does it mean to be a disciple?

It isn't surface level for me.  It isn't about smiling to someone, tithing, going to church, or even praying before meals.  To me, it means carrying my cross.  Can I carry my cross with my sins fully on it, no matter the weight, and still have faith in my God?  Am I willing to accept Christ in my life fully, knowing that Satan is going to challenge me at all costs?  Am I willing to accept life-altering circumstances (a death in the family, my house burning down, cancer, or perhaps even my own death) and still be faithful to Him?

I certainly hope so!  I do try to search for Christ in all circumstances - good and bad.  I am also very real with Him - my pain, anger, frustrations and joy, thankfulness, love.  I come to Him in everything, bearing all of my emotions knowing that He will continue to love me even after I've shed tears in frustrations.  But I rest in knowing that afterwards, He will speak to me and tell me where to go or what to do next.  I love that He allows me to talk so candidly with Him and I love that He also speaks to me without reserve.

For me, being a disciple is being prepared as a follow of Christ, to do hard things and still put my faith in Him.  It's about listening to Him with open ears to His plans for my life.  He may call us to do big things (taking a stance, becoming a missionary, enduring cancer and still spreading His word) and we need to be prepared to follow Him.  His will for my life may be raising these children and preparing them to do big things.  I must be a disciple and know that in all things, Christ is with me.

During church today, we read 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

I realized I have fought a good fight.  And I cried in church like a big baby!  My fights in life have been quite challenging - being a teenager and walking the halls pregnant, being a single mother and surviving on my own, growing up with a parent addicted to sex, drugs and alcohol.  Those are just the big ones.  My childhood has shaped me into the person I am today.  And I would be in complete denial if I said my fight in life are over.

I haven't finished my race and, for the most part, have kept the faith.

I then started thinking of my own children.  We've entered the teen years here at our house and they have been challenging already.  I love my sweet Cameron!  I owe my life to him.  I was headed down a terrible path in life and upon finding out I was pregnant with Him, I choose to turn my life around and get my stuff together.  Such a precious gift he is to me!

But Cameron has been quite the challenge lately.  And I've even found myself asking him, "do you have a daily goal to make me cry?"  I realized in church today, after I remind myself to have GRACE with Him, that Satan is working on him.  This all tied in with my own life and the fights we fight.  Cameron is at a point in his life, where Satan will be pulling on him, trying him and testing his faith.  I need to direct my anger at Satan, rather than at Cameron. I need to pray for Satan to let my children go and ask God to fight the fight for us.

I'm so saddened that my children even have to have a fight, that they will have to carry their own cross.  I don't want them to suffer or hurt or even get in trouble.  This stuff is harder than toddlers touching cabinets or crying at bedtime (I can't yet agree that it's harder than colic though).  This teenage stuff is hard - for parents and the teens.  But I need to be more mindful about praying with Cameron for Satan to let him go and for God to hold him up.  I need to make sure that in the end, Cameron can say he fought the good fight.  I need to remind my child that he is at a point in his life where Satan will use every tactic to hurt my child and tell Cameron he has to fight a good fight.  I need to teach them that we all have our own cross to carry and somehow guide them to make smart decisions to lessen the nails and weight of their own cross.

For me, being a good disciple is accepting Christ in my life and being faithful in all circumstances, even in the midst of a fight or feeling the weight of my cross.  For me, being a disciple is being able to say I fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept up my faith.

Day 5 - 10am

Whoever came up with the list had a good idea to take a random pic at 10am, just not exactly on a Sunday.  I wasn't about to interrupt our prayer time with the flash of a camera!  But here is where I was at 10am :)

Day 4 - A Stranger

We took the kids to see Beauty and the Beast at a local HS theater.  We happened to know the father of the Belle (she was Annie this time last year).  We don't know Rachel, only her father, so this was a great photo op of a stranger!

Daddy/Daughter Dance '12

Courtnie looks forward to this date with her Daddy all year long! This girl LOVES her Daddy!  She has a new outfit, new shoes and she carried my black party purse with her.  We attempted to curl her hair TWICE that day - she slept in sponge rollers and then we put her hair in hot rollers.  Neither attempt proved successful.  Her hair doesn't like to curl as it is, and the added humidity made it impossible.  Saddest part of the evening for me... she took off with my camera.  Her taking fun pics of her evening out just makes her seem so much more grown up.  She did good with her pics, except the setting for my red-eye reduction was changed.  Of course she has blue eyes (or red in the evening
s pics) and so did everyone else she took pics of.  Gotta figure out how to fix those.

Day 2 - Words

Day 1 - My View Today

Pretty boring huh?  That's how I felt about my day.  I woke up way before dawn to get a jump start on work.  Took Oakley to the vet before the kids even left for school.  Got the babies to school.  Headed towards downtown and picked my sister up on the way.  Sat in traffic for far too long that never produced a reason for the traffic.  Got to the courthouse late (thanks to the traffic of course) and drove forever to find a parking spot.  Too bad it was on the very top level but we did receive some non-threatening cat-calls from the Dallas prison building just next door.  Then stood in the longest line I've ever seen at the courthouse just to go through security.  Found out we were at the wrong court building.  Headed over to the Dallas Federal courthouse.  Attempted to find decent parking; we didn't.  Walk half a mile to the courthouse and find out the courtroom is full.  So we left.  Drove around downtown to surprise Momma at work.  Breanne and I are directionally challenged and we made it to Mom's work without having to call her.  Mom doesn't like calls from frustrated, lost soles from her 2 daughter's in downtown.  We know this from experience.  Okay, experiences.  Had lunch with Mom.  Drove B home.  Worked for a few hours.  Drove to get Oakley picked up.  Ran the afternoon carpool.  Took Cameron to baseball practice and sat in the parking lot for over an hour. Took kids to Mom's for dinner.  These kids expect dinner after driving around for hours.  No deal!  And then drove us all home.  That was far too much driving for my likes.

February's Photo a Day

I've always wanted to do the Project 365 where you take a photo to commemorate everyday of your life for a year.  But it makes me so anxious.  I fear I'll miss a day and fail completely for the entire year, not just the one day a photo wasn't snapped, for one day missed is a full year of failure.  Zoloft clearly doesn't help with Project 365 fears!

So I'm going to attempt the February Photo a Day Challenge.

I won't even lie.  The thought of missing a day in February is nauseating as well.  I mean it's only 29 days versus 365, surely I can manage to accomplish this task.

I'm already a day behind because I spent too many hours yesterday talking myself out of it.  However, I spent this morning talking myself into it.

I'm going to do this ya'll. I may not blog everyday, but I will post all the pics eventually.  And I vow to NOT announce if I missed a photo and had to play catch-up.  Surely I won't remember if I fail this simple task and let it beat me down 20 years from now.
